School Districts Are Facing Chromebook Shortages as Students Shift to Online Learning

School districts are facing difficulty securing Chromebooks for students this year due to supply shortages amid the coronavirus pandemic.

With students across the country starting the school year at home, laptops and computers have become necessities to participate in classes or do coursework. Chromebooks — which run on Google’s Chrome operating system — have been a popular choice for students thanks to their low-price range. While high-end Chromebooks can cost hundreds of dollars, the most affordable models run just under $300.

But communities have been struck with Chromebook shortages over the last few weeks, due to high, nationwide demand for the machines and a slowdown in production.

According to the Associated Press, Lenovo, HP and Dell — three companies that make their own versions of Chromebooks — have said they will be short 5 million laptop units this year. The outlet said the

Bose Unveils New Premium Earbuds to Compete With Apple’s AirPod Pros

It took a while, but it looks like there is finally a competitor to the AirPod Pros. This fall, Bose will release the QuietComfort Earbuds, noise-cancelling, wireless in-ear headphones that will likely appeal to anyone who thinks Apple’s premium offering—and those weird stems—still look a little ridiculous.

Days after a promotional video for the product leaked online, Bose confirmed that it will release a wireless version of its QuietComfort20 earbuds at the end of September. Those buds will also be joined by a re-engineered version of the company’s wireless Sport Earbuds as well.

The QuietComfort, or QC earbuds, are a renamed version of the Noise Cancelling 700 Earbuds, that were originally supposed to launch last year. The set features a brand-new Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) chip and 11 ambient sound levels to keep unwanted noise out. They are also equipped with a set of exterior microphones that allow the earbuds

How a suicide video on Facebook Live went viral on TikTok

“Ronnie had been deceased for almost an hour and a half when I got the first notification from Facebook that they weren’t going to take down the video […] what the hell kind of standards is that?” Steen told Snopes.

Earlier this week, Facebook issued the following statement: “We removed the original video from Facebook last month on the day it was streamed and have used automation technology to remove copies and uploads since that time.”

Later, on September 10th, the company informed Snopes that the video was up on the site for two hours and 41 minutes before it was removed. “We are reviewing how we could have taken down the livestream faster,” it said in a statement. Those two hours and 41 minutes, Steen told Snopes, isn’t fast enough of a response, and is completely unacceptable as friends and family were impacted by the

2 young teachers die from COVID-19 complications

A third-grade teacher at Windsor Elementary School in Columbia, S.C., died on Monday, days after her COVID-19 diagnosis. Music lover Demetria Bannister, 28, was known as “Windsor’s Songbird,” principal Denise Quickel said in a press release sent to Yahoo Life. Bannister last visited campus on Aug. 28 and began teaching remotely on Aug. 31. On Friday, Richland School District Two, of which Windsor Elementary School is a part, learned of her test results and began contact tracing and

Florida bars to re-open at half-capacity; adults with COVID-19 more likely to have dined out

On the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack, Americans are struggling with feelings of safety once again as another American is diagnosed with the coronavirus every 2.45 seconds.

Most state case counts and deaths, with the exception of Wisconsin, are improving across the nation, but deaths are still more than a third higher than they were at the beginning of July. America has been averaging about 35,000 cases per day.

In Louisiana, Gov. John Bel Edwards said he will ease restrictions on public gatherings beginning Friday but a face mask mandate will stay in place. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, however, said she will not ease the city’s guidelines on public gatherings after a troublesome Labor Day weekend that included dozens of reported violations.

Meanwhile, in New York City, transit commuters will face a $50 fine beginning Monday if they refuse to wear a face mask. But, in Florida,

TL;DR: As of Sept. 11, select home gym equipment is on sale for up to $2,400 off at Best Buy and Dick’s Sporting Goods.

If Peloton’s recent sale milestones have shown us anything, it’s that people will go to great lengths to recreate the gym experience at home amid the COIVD-19 pandemic. But we’ll go out on a limb and guess that $2,000 (on top of membership fees) isn’t a reasonable ask for most shoppers in need of new workout equipment.

The thing is, finding workout equipment on sale online can be tricky. Lately, we’ve seen one of two things happening: Either retailers’ supplies are almost completely depleted, or they’ll list items “on sale”

French PM reduces self-isolation time to 7 days

PARIS — French Prime Minister Jean Castex warned that the virus situation is “obviously worsening” in the country as health authorities recorded the biggest one-day jump in new cases since the pandemic began.

Castex announced Friday that the self-isolation time for COVID-19 is reduced from 14 days to seven days because it is the period “when there is a real risk of contagion” and in order to better ensure the enforcement of the measure.

French health authorities argued this week that the 14-day quarantine was not well respected by many in the country who considered it too long.

Castex himself is on self-isolation this week after he was in close contact with a person infected with the virus.

He also announced that specific testing centers will be set up to provide results in priority to people who have symptoms or have been in close contact with someone tested positive or … Read More
